CAST is an instrument for evaluating problems associated with cannabis abuse. For the measurement of the problem five areas are valued (recreational use, memory problems, influence of the social group, attempts to quit and problems related to use) by means of 6 items that are answered on a Likert scale.
In the original study, a high internal consistency (.81) was reported, as well as high sensitivity and specificity among low consumption users compared to other similar measuring instruments. It also has a significant ability to detect users with addiction problems
Through the summation a problematic use index proportional to higher scores is obtained
