Instrument
Cannabis Use Intention Questionnaire
Acronym
CUIQ
Area
Personal, Family, Peer Group
Dimension
Risk factors start consumption
Specificity
Specific: Cannabis
Objective
Measure the intention to use cannabis, based on the Theory of Planned Action. Its use is indicated for the selection of individuals and groups (selective prevention) and for the design and evaluation of preventive interventions
Factors it measures
  •      Purpose of consumption
  •      Attitude towards consumption
  •      Subjective rule
  •      Self-efficacy towards abstinence

Description

Abstract

CUIQ measures the intention of cannabis use among adolescents. It is an effective instrument for screening the population at risk. Therefore, it is useful for the selection of groups targeted for selective prevention and for the evaluation of preventive interventions

Psychometric characteristics

Reliability:

In the scales of Self-efficacy towards abstinence and intention, the reliability coefficients of the scores were above the recommended point for reliability analyzes, while for the Attitude and Subjective Standard scales a value of .68 and .58 was obtained. respectively.

Validity:

Analysis of the internal structure of the test: the goodness of fit indices exceed the recommended ones (ΔSBχ2 = 571.94, Δgl = 6, p <.01).

Relationship of test scores with other variables: attitude, subjective norm and intention variables presented significant and positive correlations with cannabis use and CAST questionnaire scores. The self-efficacy towards abstinence presented a negative correlation with the two measures of use: in the last month (r = -.35, p <.01) and CAST (r = -.34, p <.01). In turn, there are high correlations between the intention variable and the two consumption measures (.59 - .65).

COR curve: COR curve analyzes indicate that intention is the factor that best classified both use and risk of problems due to cannabis use

No. of items
Attitude towards use is measured through four items divided into two dimensions, both measured on a Likert-type scale with five answer options ranging from 1 (not likely / not at all important) to 5 (very likely / very important)
Duration
15 min
Way of administration
  • Individual, group
  • Paper
Way of qualification

Attitude towards consumption and Subjective Standard. In both variables, its two dimensions are combined in a multiplicative way to obtain a single score

Self-efficacy and Intent of consumption are obtained with a direct score through the summation of the scores of each item

Application context
School
Population
Adolescence
