BIS / BAS is a multifactorial scale that by means of 20 items evaluates the systems of inhibition / activation of the subject in a reactive way in different contexts, among them it can be used to measure the tendency of avoidance or approximation to risk situations such as the use of substances
The BIS scale was relatively independent of the BAS subscales. The BIS scale correlated -.12 with impulsivity, .28 with reward and -.08 with fun search.
On the other hand, impulsivity correlated .34 with reward and .41 with pursuit of fun.
In turn, it was confirmed that three BAS scales were significantly associated in a second order factor (> .75) as well as BIS (> .93).
Test-retest correlations:
.66 (impulsivity), .59 (reward) and .69 (pursuit of fun).
Following the cut-off points of the measurement scale, a total score indicative of the level of inhibition / activation is obtained
