CICAD/OEA. Comisión Interamericana para el Control del Abuso de Drogas
Drug policies have different impacts on women and men. If these differences are not addressed, existing inequalities can deepen. This report, Drug Policies in the Americas and Gender Perspective: Findings from the Seventh Round Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism (MEM) National Reports, generously funded by the Government of Canada, discusses how member states of the Organization of American States (OAS) are incorporating gender perspective in their drug policies and conducting activities to help close the gender gap. (The MEM national reports were published on July 1, 2019.) This report also draws on other country-specific and international sources of information. The thematic areas of drug policy outlined in the OAS InterAmerican Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) Hemispheric Drug Strategy and the Plan of Action on Drugs 2016-2020 are found in the Outcome Document of the Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly on the World Drug Problem (commonly known as UNGASS 2016). The MEM seventh round considers recommendations within the Outcome Document and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.
The European Commission is preparing a third phase of this programme, therefore COPOLAD will be back at the beginning of 2021.
