Description
Abstract
It includes the first three items of AUDIT-10 measuring quantity, frequency and excessive use on a single occasion. It is for international use and consistent with DSM-V, CIDI and clinical interviews for alcohol abuse disorders criteria.
Psychometric characteristics
There is no information on the internal consistency of AUDIT-C, although a median of 80 Cronhach's Alpha is referred. Its sensitivity ranges from 54 to 98%. The test-retest reliability ranges from 65-85. Apparently it is more sensitive than the AUDIT-10, but less specific for dependence. The three items usually mount on a single factor.
No. of items
3
Way of administration
Self-administered questionnaire with pencil and paper or computer, or in clinical interview or included as part of general population surveys .
Way of qualification
The sum of the three items is obtained. Scores range from 0 to 12; a higher score means higher risk of hazardous drinking and possible signs of dependence. different cutoffs are referrenced. The World Health Organization sets it at 5 for detecting risky and hazardous alcohol use.
Application context
Institutions conducting general population surveys, hospitals and clinics first level and / or specialized care. Emergency rooms.
Population
Adolescents and adults of both sexes, older population, and veteran women and in prison. It provides excellent results in men but not in women. It is recommended to lower the cutoff point of 5 to work with women. The review authors conclude that research is needed on its application in specific population groups.
