Description

Abstract

AEQ-AB measures the expectations of adolescents on the effects of alcohol by means of seven items, which makes it an effective tool in the evaluation of beliefs about use as well as for individual monitoring

Psychometric characteristics

Reliability:

Positive expectations about the effects of alcohol: α = 0.49

Negative expectations about the effects of alcohol: α = 0 .51

Positive expectations towards use in the original version (constituted by positive social areas, fun, sex and stress reduction): .76

Negative expectations towards use in the original version (constituted by the negative social, negative emotional, negative physical and negative cognitive areas): .96

Validity:

Confirmatory factor analysis: showed that the model (7 items) presents an adequate adjustment

Convergent validity analysis: alcohol expectations factors (positive and negative) are correlated in both questionnaires. Likewise, this correlation exists with respect to all the EQ factors (Leigh & Stacy, 1993), except for the negative emotional and negative social factor

No. of items
It consists of seven items on a Likert scale with five answer options ranging from strongly disagree (1) to strongly agree (5)
Duration
5 min
Way of administration
  • Individual and collective
  • Paper
Way of qualification

The scores associated with the scale indicate the degree of proximity to positive and negative expectations towards alcohol use

Application context
Clinc / School
Population
Adolescent
