The aim of the Conference is to further promote the exchange of information, coordination, and cooperation between authorities in charge of drugs policies in the EU and the CELAC, some key points for the planning process concerning changes in public policies are presented, also the gender approach and the cross-cutting strategy in transferring evidence into working lines are topics to be addressed.

Leaders and participants of the Programme discuss the main challenges to be considered in the implementation of public policies related to drugs in CELAC countries; and the role of COPOLAD in supporting new strategies and programmes.

The meeting gathers representatives of the ALC countries, held in Brussels on the 23rd Mach, 2016. It provided the ground for a global presentation of the Programme, together with the joint exploration of the main priorities and needs to be addressed through the implementation of each component.

Following the successful completion of the flagship EU cooperation programme in the field of drugs policies with Latin America and the Caribbean - COPOLAD, a new phase of the programme has been recently launched. An overview of the achievements so far and perspectives for the new phase as a contribution to tackle the world drug problem in a more efficient manner has been presented.
The European Commission is preparing a third phase of this programme, therefore COPOLAD will be back at the beginning of 2021.
